Reforms We Need in Our Classrooms #Day16

A classroom is a place where we learn, grow and mould ourselves for a netter future. But are we learning the right way? Are we paving the right path? It's undisputed that these classrooms have contributed in building bright minds. But there are placed where the education system has not been adequate and welcoming for every child.

I put up a story on my Instagram asking people the changes they wanted to bring about in the classrooms. These are the five changes we wish to see in the way they work and the education system works.

1) Increase in Co Curricular Activities and reduction in academic syllabus: It has often been noticed that students fall under too much academic pressure. They worry about their grades and their positions in the school to the extent that they stop enjoying their childhood. The work pressure at offices is well known to everyone and childhood is that one phase of life where one can remain carefree of such pressures. In fact this must be the time we branch out and learn new skills outside of our academic studies. Co curricular activities like organizing workshops and fun competitions must be organized and encouraged. They must also hold weightage in the report card of the child and not just remain an obligation.

2) More Interative and Less of a Monologue : Every student knows the feeling of listening to a long boring lecture by teachers and waiting for the bell to ring. But this is not the way it should be. The lessons must be interactive and there must also be a separate time slot for discussion and peer teaching by the students on what has been taught. Asking of questions must be encouraged and the length of the syllabus must be adjusted in such a way that such discussions can be accommodated in the curriculum.

3) Making a Distress Room : Like I mentioned before, students tend to get stressed about their studies and worry about their future from time to time. Not only studies, but their personal lives also affect their minds and all this can often lead to depression and anxiety. For this reason, students, especially teenagers, need a safe platform where they can discuss those issues with a professional therapist who can help them revive themselves when needed

While there are some schools and universities which are bringing about such changes which is very much appreciated, it is high time all educational institutions do the same and make classrooms a place where children can thrive to their utmost potential.
