"There is a wisdom of the brain and there is a wisdom of the heart." #Day6
Heart v/s brain is a topic which has often been addressed in popular media. This quote - "There is a wisdom of the brain and there is a wisdom of the heart" by Charles Dickens represents a person's inner conflict within the soul. The idea behind the quote, although holds great meaning, but has now been demoted to merely a stereotypical topic in blogs and while I do not intend to go by such stereotypes, I feel like when I write about certain issues, it tends to clear up my mind as to what my stand is on the topic and turns out, this time I can't pick a side and I feel we don't even have to pick one. I agree that we might not follow or favour one of them blindly, but we do have our inclinations towards either the heart or the brain. As for myself, I consider myself more of a practical person and so I mostly prefer using the wisdom of my brain.
What seems odd to me is that people just casually tell others to listen to the heart as if it is an obvious choice even though the truth is that we ourselves fight an internal war everyday to choose between what our heart wants and what our brain commands us to do.
Benefit of favouring the brain
Thinking rationally or from the mind has got its own benefits. A rational person who is not affected by emotions so much can be impartial and can take better decisions in such times.
They can also be quite resourceful when things have come to a pretty pass where an emotional person can get overly panicked.
Benefit of favouring the heart
Being emotional is equally important for attributes like sympathy, empathy, kindness and sentiments have a much greater role in life than materialistic pressure.
Emotions are what makes a human different from all other forms of life and place us much higher than robots.
What to do!!?
I get it, I get it. By providing such diplomatic views on picking a side, you might be confused (or even frustrated!) as to what you should do - to acquire the wisdom of the brain or the wisdom of the heart? It's true that our wisdom is more or less dependent on both of them. But none of us are uninformed by the situations wherein we get disoriented about making choices. We end up taking wrong choices sometimes by being driven by emotions and sometimes we take up some really cruel decisions without considering someone else's emotions. These situations leave us skeptical about which way to go.
The best thing to do here is abide by the mantra: "Follow your heart but take your brain with you." Sometimes circumstances want us to do what our instincts say and not worry about the consequences and often times, we need to incline towards our the practical aspects.
All you should take care of is while you favour one of the two in a situation, you are also aware of why the other is not viable enough. Know the pros and cons and you'll be all good!
