The Power of a Conversation

While silence may be golden in certain situations, it is also very true that conversations hold great potential in bringing a change. Sadly, this potential is not being understood in recent times. Even though technology might be the cause for providing us with the greatest convenience in 21st century, it has also, unfortunately, been the cause for the undermining the value of a conversation in the eyes of everyone.

Today, whenever we have time to spare, we like sticking to our phones or laptops and scrolling through our social media feeds (which ironically cannot be any less social).
On top of that, with the pandemic forcing us to shut all public places and sit at home, it has further reduced the chances to strike up a conversation with someone.

But then the question here is that why is it so important anyway? I can imagine you wondering that as long as your daily life tasks and goals are not being affected, how does it even matter?

So here is why a conversation is much more powerful and necessary than you think it is!

Venting out can help you better cope up with your difficulties

We all have our own ups and downs and while it might not be possible for others to solve those problems for you every time, a long hearty conversation with your loved ones can lighten up the weight of all the pressure you have been dealing with.

Gets people thinking about issues they didn't think about earlier

Discussion and debates, even informal ones, can bring up different stands and opinions on topics you didn't bother thinking much about earlier. On one hand, listening to different thoughts and ideas makes you knowledgeable, while on the other hand, speaking up your opinion makes you a person with much better clarity and a better sense of integrity.
In fact, conversations have always been the root cause for bigger changes and revolutions. Think about any revolution you have read about in your history class -- you will find that all these events only started when more and more people started talking about them.

Instills in you self introspection

As I mentioned above, conversations compel you to think more and that also creates in you a need to self introspect and propels you to ask yourself if what you are doing is right. We are not perfect but a desire to be a better person will surely take you closer to perfection.

Developing better professional and personal relationships

Talking to somebody lays the basic foundation of humanity and ignites in us qualities like empathy and hospitality -- qualities which differentiate us from machines. While you might have your own troubles bothering you, it is always enlightening to talk to others and know what they have been going through too. Goals can make you reach places but it is compassion for others that makes you humane.

Imagine how such big feats can be achieved just by talking to someone, by starting a conversation and by saying and listening to something meaningful. THAT is the power of conversation and it needs to be respected and recognized.

So next time you are sitting next to a person you can talk to, do not let your phones and laptops stop you from them talking to you!
