What I Learned from taking a break from Instagram

Image
Having used the app for so long had made me immersed in this "virtual facade" for so long that I had forgotten to draw the difference between real life and social media and so getting out of the app for a while really helped me in gaining clarity. Recently, I reinstalled instagram since after a very long time I had the time to spend just scrolling by posts. But as I opened the app, I realized a lot of things about myself and the nature of social media in general. Firstly, the social media break made me lose interest in the lives of those people who didn't really matter to me in real life. Now this might seem absurd at first since that should not be happening anyway. Why would I have any interest in people whom I barely know? But Instagram makes you want to know more about them. All that everyone is doing is glamourising their lives in the best ways possible by putting the most aesthetic filters, the sassiest captions and the most inside jokes possible. Having used the ap

The Power of a Conversation

Image
While silence may be golden in certain situations, it is also very true that conversations hold great potential in bringing a change. Sadly, this potential is not being understood in recent times. Even though technology might be the cause for providing us with the greatest convenience in 21st century, it has also, unfortunately, been the cause for the undermining the value of a conversation in the eyes of everyone. Today, whenever we have time to spare, we like sticking to our phones or laptops and scrolling through our social media feeds (which ironically cannot be any less social). On top of that, with the pandemic forcing us to shut all public places and sit at home, it has further reduced the chances to strike up a conversation with someone. But then the question here is that why is it so important anyway? I can imagine you wondering that as long as your daily life tasks and goals are not being affected, how does it even matter? So here is why a conversation is much more power

Lessons Learn from #NaBloPoMo #Day30

So finally we are on the last day of November and I still can't believe that I managed to finish this challenge being the lazy person I am on most days. Although I have always wanted to write everyday but there wasn't ever a goal to fulfill and so I never really had the motivation to actually do it. But now that I have done it, there are various lessons I have learnt from this challenge - some of which I'll list now! (1) Thoughts on various issues: I am not sure when was the last time I had actually sat and thought about mental health, depression and organisational skills so much as I did in this past month. Like I have mentioned before, writing everyday has compelled me to think about things which I usually didn't have an opinion on - thus making me far more aware and thoughtful than I used to be. (2) Creating New Content: Other than my procrastination, my other major concern was if I'll be able to come up with a new theme to write on everyday. Luckily, I planned

How To Be the Best At Your Game #Day29

Hey everyone! I hope you guys enjoyed all the interactive beginner-friendly articles from the Aagaaz Series brought to you by four talented and wonderful girls. One thing they all have in common is that they are the best at what they do - whether it is dance, art, fashion or public speaking.  So today, I will be doing a short Q/A with them to know how they manage to be so good at their skills. Q1 Why do you find public speaking / art / fashion / dance so interesting? (Respectively) Shubhangi: It's interesting because you get that adrenaline rush when you're on the stage. And eventually, you turn into an adrenaline junkie. Harshita:  Art, to me, is magnetic. Keeps drawing me to itself. I love how much I can explore in art- like ranging from oil pastels to water colours, there’s no end to it. It amazes me how the simplest of tools can create masterpieces. Sehej: Fashion is a reflection of your personality and so it is something you must give importance to. Q2 Do you think you are

The Art of Elocution #Aagaaz #Day28

Disclaimer: All images belong to their respective owners. I’ll be brutally honest, public speaking is extremely stressful. Once in the limelight, it can remind you of all the mistakes you’ve ever made, relive all those embarrassing high school moments and recall all those unpleasant memories. But guess what? You’re not alone. Almost everybody feels this way at least once. But the good news is, the fear disappears. Charlie Chaplin once said,  ‘Nothing is permanent in this wicked world, not even our troubles.’  This quote is absolutely true as change is the only constant in this world. Thus, believe in yourself and take that leap of faith.  "Take that Leap of Faith" Public speaking can’t be learnt through studying books, reading articles or hearing someone explain it to you. Even if you try to practice by yourself, chances are it won’t help you as your real talent only comes out in real situations and not make-belief simulations. That’s why, sometimes it’s better to take that l

Varied Aspects of Bharatanatyam #Aagaaz #Day27

Image
Bharatanatyam is a dance form originated in Tamil Nadu. It is the oldest dance forms of India. Earlier it was performed in temples but now it has spread all across the world.  The basic posture required for this dance is a half sitting posture with bent legs and knees facing sidewards in opposite directions, this posture is called as Aramandi . Dance can be broadly classified under three main heads such as Nritta, Nritya and Natya. Nritta: Nritta means pure dance, a presentation of rhythm through graceful movement of the body. Nritya: Nritya consists of footwork and abhinaya. It relates to Rasa and psychological state. Natya: Natya means abhinaya and it is the combined manifestation of bhava, rasa and abhinaya. Abhinaya is a distinguishing characteristic of Bharatnatyam; it goes beyond conveying an aesthetic experience, beyond narration, beyond showing a story unfolding, and expresses the inner experience of the dancer, or the character portrayed by the dancer.  Similarly,  mudras eq

ART 101 #Day26 #Aagaaz

Art isn't limited to paper, pencil, and colors; it goes beyond that. It is a method to express your emotions, thoughts, and feelings. It is also found to be therapeutic by some.  Whether it is painting or sketching here are some tips to get started: 1. Brush Pen Techniques: You can use them for calligraphy and even for creating bold sketches or posters.  ◇ For Calligraphy : Calligraphy entails faux and real calligraphy.  ○ For the real kind, the upstrokes are supposed to be very light and put minimal pressure while the downstrokes are supposed to be thicker and firm. ○ For faux, create an outline of the word and then fill it in. You can create minimalistic patterns such as tiny polka dots or sparkles.  ◇ Brush pens could also substitute for watercolors.  Method 1: add some pigment in a palette and then add a drop or two of water and start using it like watercolor. Method 2: fill the area using a brush pen lightly. Take a brush, dip it in a bowl of water, dab it on a tissue paper to
